Selection Process of SSC Stenographer Post
The SSC Stenographer selection process involves a Written Examination and a Skill Test in Stenography. The selection criteria are detailed below:
For Written Examination, candidates need to attain minimum qualifying marks as follows:
- UR: 30%
- OBC/EWS: 25%
- All Other Categories: 20%
Applicants must indicate whether they’re applying for Stenographer Grade ‘C,’ Stenographer Grade ‘D,’ or both.
A. Written Examination: It consists of objective-type multiple choice questions, set in English and Hindi (except Part III). The duration is 2 hours for general candidates and 2 hours 40 minutes for visually handicapped candidates. Negative marking of 0.25 marks for wrong answers applies. Qualifying candidates proceed to the Skill Test.
B. Skill Test in Stenography: Based on Written Examination performance, candidates are shortlisted for this qualifying test. Skill test standards will be fixed for various candidate categories. The test happens at Commission centers. Skill test is mandatory, and qualifying candidates are recommended for appointment based on Written Examination performance.
Tie-breaking: If multiple candidates achieve the same marks:
- Marks in General Intelligence & Reasoning.
- Marks in General Awareness.
- Older candidates are prioritized.
- Alphabetical order of first names.
