NMMS Scolarship 2023 Details

The Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam, has issued the official notification for the Centrally Sponsored “National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS)” Scheme for the financial year 2023 – 2024. NMMS Scholarships are granted to talented or deserving students enrolled as regulars in class IX, X, XI, and XII in Government, Government-aided, and local body schools, whose parents’ income does not exceed Rs. 3,50,000/- per annum.

Category Wise Reservation :
The scholarship offers category-wise reservation as follows: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 4% for PWD candidates.
The scholarship amount awarded will be Rs. 12,000 per annum, disbursed at a rate of Rs. 1,000 per month.
Eligibility Criteria of NMMS 2023
To apply for the NMMS Scholarship, students in Class VIII from Government, Local Body, and Government-Aided schools must meet the following criteria:
- Students need a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in their Class VII examination to be eligible for the NMMS examination. (For SC/ST students, this requirement is 5% lower).
- Awardees should maintain a minimum of 55% marks in Class IX and XI, and 60% in Class X for the scholarship to continue. (For SC/ST candidates, the minimum marks required are relaxed by 5%).
- The scholarship is available to talented or meritorious students whose parental income is no more than Rs. 3,50,000/- per year.
- Students should be regular attendees of Government, Government-aided, or local body schools in classes IX, X, XI, and XII, with a maximum scholarship duration of four years.

NMMS Scholarship is not applicable to the following groups of students
The NMMS Scholarship application is open to a specific group of students. However, certain categories of students are not eligible to apply for this scholarship:
- Students Enrolled in Private Schools: Although students from private schools can participate in the scholarship exam, they are not eligible to receive the scholarship benefits.
- Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas: Students studying in these central government schools are not considered for this scholarship program.
- Students of Residential State Government Schools: This scholarship is not available for students studying in residential schools operated by state government institutions. This includes schools that offer boarding, lodging, and education facilities. Additionally, students enrolled in private schools are also excluded from this scholarship scheme.

How to Apply
Interested and eligible individuals can apply for the NMMS Assam Scholarship through the official NMMS Assam Scholarship Portal. To initiate the application process, candidates can adhere to the following steps:
- Navigate downwards and access the section labeled “Important Web-Links.”
- Click on the “Online Application Form” and commence the registration procedure by selecting “Register Now.”
- Progressing to the subsequent stage, furnish your personal and educational particulars while uploading the requisite documents.
- Subsequent to completing the aforementioned steps, applicants should remit the application fee as per their respective category.
- Finally, conclude the process by submitting the form.
Mandatory Documents for Uploading Alongside the Online Application Form:
- Scanned copy of the Candidate’s Photograph.
- Scanned copy of the Candidate’s Signature.
- Scanned copy of the Candidate’s Caste Certificate (Applicable only for OBC, SC, and ST candidates).

The process of selecting candidates for the NMMS Scholarship is as follows
- An MCQ-based written examination will be conducted on 18th November 2023 to select candidates for the NMMS Scholarship Scheme.
- The question paper will be available in both Assamese and English mediums, while the OMR sheet will be provided in English only.
- Access to question papers from the past five years can be obtained through the ‘Bidyarthi’ app on the Google Play Store.
- Children with disabilities will be granted additional time, as per applicable norms.
- The examination comprises two papers: the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

To determine student selection, the following conditions may apply:
- Students need to clear both MAT and SAT tests with a minimum aggregate score of 40%. (For SC/ST students, 32% marks are sufficient.)
- The student must have achieved a score of at least 55% or an equivalent grade in the Class VIII examination. (For SC/ST students, the requirement is 50%.)
